At a Railway Officers' Institute social in Wellington" on Saturday night, Mr R. W. Tho handsome silver cups for competition have already been exhibited in Geraldine and Timaru, and are now on exhibition in Christchurch, where they are creating much interest.

A combined social of the Timaru Boy Scouts was held in St. Mary’s Schoolroom, Bank Street, on Friday evening The Mayor, who has always taken a very keen interest in the work of Scouting, kindly took the chair. There was a large attendance of the public, amongst those present being Mrs G. J. Wallace, Rev. A. C. Lawry and Commissioner H. A. Innes-Jones, and about 100 Boy Scouts from Northdown, St. Mary’s, Te Rangi and Highfield troops. Mr G. Griffiths gave a very interesting display of conjuring, and items were given by the boys as follows: Theatrical juggling, _ Scout Chittocb; violin solos, G. Cliff and Scout Relvin; pianoforte duet by C. and E. Halstead; recitations, L. .Parker, J. Keen and J. Riggins; a dance by W. Brown, and a pianoforte solo by Vincent. The Mayor gave some good advice to the boys, advising them to keep up the good teaching they are receiving from the Scouters, and Commissioner Innes-Jones also addressed them, asking the public to give the movement every possible assistance, and to seek out anyone who would come forward and assist as Scquters. After a sumptuous supper was handed round by the senior boys, an enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King.”
