REVIEW OF THE SHARE MARKET

There was a fair amount of business on the various Exchanges during the past week, although the average toll short of that reached in the last three months. Several stocks showed a docided rise in values, notably those of brewery companies. In the banking group, Australasias changed hands at £l3 5s 6d, and maintained that price. New &>uth Wales were quitted at £4.0 15s, and closed £4O 10s, with sellers asking £4l. National ndw issue were inquired for at £6 Bs, a margin of 2s separating buyers and sellers. The old issue is £0 11s and £6 13s, cum 8 per cent, dividend and bonus. Unions are wanted at £l4 15s 6d, sellers not quoting. Bank of New Zealand are sought at 545, showing a rise of Is 3d on fast week’s prices and are now cum dividend of Is Id per share. , ... Insurance shares are not selling as freely as usual. Nationals have dropped 'from 72s 6d to 68s, with recorded business at 67s 9d. New Zealands are fiteady at 295, and South British and Standard remain as quoted last week. Shipping shares are not in great demand. .P. and 0. deferred stock has fallen’to £260. with sellers wanting £2O more. Huddart Parker ordinary shares are still wanted at 425, with sellers asking 42s 9d. Buyers of preference havo increased their offers to 20s Jd without attracting sellers. Business has been ■effected in Union Steam a* per cent, preference at 19s 9d and 20s. There lias been moderate activity m coal shares at slightly decreased prices. Taupiris were sold at 18s 6d, and Westports at 35s 3d. Stocktons showed a fall of 2d on last week’s figures—sales 4s 9d (more wanted at the samci price), sellers asking 5s 2d; 8 per cent, preference 1 are quoted at buyers 6s, sellers 6s 2d. . Little has been done m freezing companies’ scrip. Canterbury Meats .are steady at late quotes, £l3 bs 6d being offered, and £l4 2s 6d wanted Gear Meats have bad sales at 435, showing no change in values. New Zealand Refrigerating fully paids, which v. lately sold at par, have dropped to 19s buyers, and 20s Gd sellers. live contiibs are 9s buyer, 9s 2d seller. Christchurch Gas have been transferred at £7 18s Gd, and sellers arc asking 6d more. Timaru Gas have no declared seller, buyers offering £7 ss. Crown Brewery scrip has bad sales at 42s 9d and 435. with further inquiries at 435, and sellers asking a shilling more. ' Wards have risen to 46s 9d, and sales can be effected at hat pi ice, but sellers are holding for 47s Gd. New Zealand Breweries have had a slraip rise from 25s' to 28s, and buyers are not satisfied. The "10 per cent debenture issue lias risen to 21s Gd. All the bioworics have had a good year, and this is reflected in the price given lor the shares. . , , , Loan ami Agency debentures and shares remain firm at last week s prices, with few recorded transactions. Wright Stephenson’s preference issue has been in request at 17s without response. Dalgetys are still wanted at £l3 2s Gd, but 10s more is required to effect sales. New Zealand Farmers 6 h per cent, stock has risen steadily ioi some weeks past. .It is now- asked for at £B4, showing an increase of £4 during the week. The ordinary shares (£2 paid) are wanted at 6s. Woollen shares are. slow of sale. Kaiapoi ordinary were sold at lbs yd, but the best buyer is now- 14s. Bruce has inquiry at 30s, and Mosgiels had a reported sale at £6 15s. V ilson s Cement are 3d cheaper than a week ago; Milburns unchanged. J.n mining, little activity is manifest.
