Air AValter Baxter arrived n Timam from Christchuhrch yesterday. Air J. P. Newman returned to Timaru from Christchurch yesterday. Air P. R. Climie (organiser to the Canterbury Progress League) spent yesterday in Timaru. Air J. G. Hewitt, S.AL, chairman of the Railway Appeal Board passed through Timaru on tho second express yesterday. -V London cable message reports that Miss Sliand, tho New Zealand swimmer, is training with the Londoner, Aliss Gant at the Hammersmith baths. She states she kept lit with physical jerks aboard the Niagara, and gymnastic exercises crossing the Atlantic. Aliss Kbaud proceeds to Paris on the 19th. Another New Zealander, Air C. Heard, Is also training at Hammersmith. An important social function took place last evening under the auspices of the Alanawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association, when the Governor General, Prime Alinister and other distinguished visitors were present. During the evening, in replying to a toast, Liid Jellieoe intimated that lie might not be leaving the Dominion before the end of November, and he hoped to remain and attend the first Royal Show at Palmerston. Tlo expressed regret at his impending departure, and declared New Zealanders would always he in the memory :>f Lady Jellieoe and himself. (Press Association.)
