MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meetiug of the Executive of the South Canterbury Automobile Association was held last evening. Present—Dr. Paterson (chairman), and Messrs 'J'. Aloore, T. Scott, G. A. Bridges, E. R. Guinness, T. Palliser, W. H. Orbell, H. Harris and E. A. Scott (secretary). CORRESPONDENCE. The Timavu Borough Couuicl wrote stating that steps were being taken to lemove shrubs and trees at the Sophia Street triangle. They also advised that the Association’s suggestions regarding silencers on motor cycles had been referred to the police for attention. The South Island Alotor Union wrote supporting the Association’s request that a petition in regard to the erection of a new bridge over the Rangitata river be. placed before the Aiain Highways Board. They advised that all affiliated clubs and associations would be asked to support the movement by getting petitions signed. The chairman suggested that a deputation horn the Association should meet the Geialdiue County Council, and i heir engineer, to decide upon the site ol Ihe proposed bridge, in drawing up a petition it was necessary that a definite site should be suggested.— A greed to. Arising out of a letter received from the Otago Alotor Club in reference to a motor by-law case recently heard in Tcinuka, it was agreed that representatives of the South Canterbury Association attend a confeience arranged between the Otago Motor Club and the Temuka Borough Council, in regard to amending their present unsatisfactory by-law regarding the speed ot motor traffic over intersections. The chairman and Mr W. H. Orbell were appointed to represent the Association a. the conference. it was also agreed that, the Timaru Borough Council be asked to appoint representatives in order to secure uniformity of the by-laws in the various boroughs. 'J'lie South Island Alotor Union advised that at the executive meeting held at Christchurch on June sth, it was agreed that a sub-committee be set up to arrange details in connection with an official road guide. It had also been agreed that a comprehensive tour of New Zealand should be provided,* and that the book should be a, full and comprehensive guide of the South Island. It was agreed to procure 500 . road maps of the district from the Rangitata to the Waitaki rivers.

GENERAL

All* Orbell stated that since the question of the roads had been taken up with the Levels County Council, a noticeable improvement had resulted, especially in regard to the Washdyke road. , -,i,i Tho chairman stated that it should now be apparent to motorists that benefits did result from the activities of the Automobile Association. Tho chairman drew the attention ot the members to the activities of the Progress League, and considered tha. the 0 Association ' should support that All* Guinness agreed that the Asso ciation should support the League with a nominal subscription. . It was resolved that flic Association become a member of the League. The chairman was appointed to represent, the Association. The following new members were elected : Messrs J. Dines, J. Whyte, S. Thomson and R. Brodie. ■ . ' The financial statement showed that the Association was in credit £145.
