The Paris correspondent of the “Morning Post” says there was a remarkable contest between Inaudi (well-known lightning calculator) and a dozen of ihe most modern calculating machines, in the presence of a large audience ot experts. In the first test of simple multiplication, division, squaring and cuDing of four figures, Inaudi was appreciably ahead of the twelve- machines, but typists, using machines, were a few seconds ahead wjien the test w*as extracting the square tube and other roots. The third test included such problems as the determination of three consecutive numbers, whereof the total square amounted to 1,601,802 This was beyond the steel calculators, hut the o-rey matter of Inaudi’s brain produced the answer in twenty seconds, namely* 729-730-731. Equally speedy was Inaudi s reply to the problem: What day ot -he week was 7th April, 18S2. Inaudi replied Friday.
