The first wicket fell to a marvellous right hand catch by Chapman at second slip, after the ball had actually passed him. The second wicket fell from an unfortunate run out or Deane, who was lame. Catterall took under 200 minutes to compile his total. He gave chances at 41 and 104. I°. Woolley. and Kilner. He hit 2 sixes and fifteen fours. His play was often sparklingv His hard driving was picturesque^—the best seen' in England in the last, two years. . . , The ; Africans’ batting’ 'in' the' second innings was as genuinely" solid and masterly as the EngHsh. . . . , England’s bowling was light and unimpressive. With the- exception of Gilligan and Tate, the others, on a good wicket, were unable ‘‘to keep down runs. England won by ah innings and IS runs.
