MEXICO’S PROTEST.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT ISSUED.
By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. MEXICO CITY, June 15.
The Foreign Office has issued a strongly worded statement of the reasons for the expulsion from Mexico of Mr Herbert Cummins, British Charge d'Affaires. It asserts that Mr Cummins for years has been ‘persono non grata’ with the Mexican Government, which openly accuses him of lack of respect, courtesy, and even with wilfully incorrect statements to his Government, in reporting local incidents. The statement says that Mexico twice asked Britain to recall Mr Cummins, but the British Government supported its representative, until finally Mexico decided he must be expelled. Claiming he is not a diplomat, but a private person, the statement concludes by saying that Mexico Is eager to renew friendly relations with Britain, but she must have an acceptable representative who will observe diplomatic customs.
