CABINET’S DECISION
TERMS OF THE LICENSE TO DEVELOP.
In view of the difference of opinion, winch exists in South Canter but y concenung the terms of the license, which Cabinet lias given for the development of hydro-electricity from Lake lekapo, the letter which Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., received from the Prime Minister, on April 10, 1922, is here reprinted : ■ “The question of the Lake Tekapo hyuro-electrio proposals was considered by CaDinet tins afternoon, and I am pleased to nitorni you that it was decided that approval be given to the issue of a hue-use, provided a Power Board is termed emoracmg the whole ol South Canterbury—time .is between the Kangitata and the \Vaitaki rivers—tile Hoard to make its own iunuicud arrangements, and also to take over the transmission hue between Ashburton and Timaru, and to buy power m bulk lrom the Government at Ashburton until power is available at Tekapo. “The following proposals have been approved by Cabinet: —(a) lliat a power Board be formed embracing the whole of South Canterbury, i.e., between the Rangitata and Waitaki rivers, (b) That satisfactory details be submitted of the proposed development with full estimates, (c) That the Board make its own financial airangements without recourse to the Government, (d) That the Board takes over the transmission line from Ashburton to Timaru and buys power in bulk from the Government-, at Ashburton, until power is available at Tekapo. (e) That the usual interchange of power of stand-by clauses and repurchase clauses are included, in, the license.”
