(From Our Own Correspondent). PICTURES TO-NIGHT. Hoot Gibson’s admirers will have an opportunity to see tlxe Univei'sal star in the most thoroughly western picture of any in which he has appeared in-“ Ride for Your Life,” to he shown at Temuka to-night. It is a dramatic story of Californian gold rush’ days, and Gibson is featured as a hard-riding cow-boy who masquerades as a bandit. It entails hard riding, fast shooting, and some dramatic acting, but the humour that’- is enterwoven in the story furnishes the big entertainment in the picture. The supports include a Gazette, a Century comedy, and Round 14, of The Leather Pushers. ODDFELLOWS’ BALL. The Oddfellows’, Lodge .will hold,, their annual ball in the drill hall ;on Thursday evening. Last year this was one of the best attended' and most enjoyable functions held during the season, and the social committee is sparing no effort to make this year’s just as successful. R.S'A. ESSAY COMPETITION. In connection with the Anzac- Day Essay - competition, which was won by the Temuka District High School, the secretary of the local branch of the R.S.A., has been asked to arrange a suitable, function for the presentation of the trophy. The pupils of the sixth standard and their teacher, Mr J. T. Smart, are to be heartily congratulated on the honour they have brought to South Canterbury.
