It-is believed that the Kidnappers ui Signor Matteotti (whose boay lound in a wood with the skull Lectured) did not mean to murder him, but in the struggle he was struck a heavy blow which killed him. The kidnapping caused a T ‘uost serious position in the Italian Chamber. The entire opposition absented themselves as a protest. Signor Mussolini says he is determined to bring the instigators of the outrage to justice. Several Fascists have been art rested, including the editor of a Rome newspaper, who was caught attempting to escape on the "northbound express. Two minor members of the Mussolini Ministry have resigned, as: their names have been mentioned m connection with the outrage, aiid they wish to defend themselves.

The Rome correspondent of “The Times” states that the' Fascists arc now definitely 7 accused of kidnapping Matteotti. The. newspapers point oui that Matteotti was known to be in possession of certain information relating to State contracts which he intended to disclose in Parliament. Had he done so, it is stated tbe cause ol Fascism would liave been seriously compromised. j" “No crime in recent years has so shocked tbe public,” says tho correspondent, who declares that according to private information given a certain deputation, Mattoetti was .first stabbed and then buried in a wood, which the police are now guarding.
