McKay and I). Grant. Tho chairman reported that he had 'interviewed Sir George Clifford, who had advised him that he was putting through a remit to the Racing Con-, ference in the direction of no permit be ing issued except through the Racing or Trotting Conference It would not be necessary for this club to continue vith its remit. It was resolved that the Polo Club pe advised that footballers and spectators are seriously interfering with the training tracks, and if this crossing of people is not confined to one passage (.which the Polo Club will ahve to make •ihemselves, of sand), tho Trustees will •go asked not to confirm the transfer of the lease of the South Canterbury Rugby Union. ... , , The secretary submitted a balance sheet for the autumn meeting, showing profit or loss in each case. The committee considered these quite ■satisfactory, and approved and adopted them, the club having succeeded in just making ends meet. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting on .Wednesday, July 23, at 8 p.m. The secretary 7 was instructed to write to tho Conference objecting to the Winton Club’s proposed dates. Matters of detail were also dealt with. ,

The South Canterbury Hunt’s point to-point steeplechases—light weight, heavy weight and farmers —will be run this afternoon, the first event being timed to begin at 2 p.m. The course an egg-shaped one of excellent variety, is located westward of Waitawa, and may be reached via Driscoll’s road — the road running westward just south of the Waitawa railway siding. The “grand stand” and weighing enclosure are on the property ol Mr Driscoll junr., about half a mile from the main Point road.

Acceptances for the first day of the Ashburton winter meeting, close at 5 •p.m., on Monday next. The Canterbury Jockey Club desires an amendment to the totalisator rules, making it" compulsory to bracket on the machine all horses in a race trained by the same trainer. Most trotting clubs bracket such horses, and there appears to be no valid ground for objection to the Canterbury remit, which would greatly simplify matters for the investing public. Amongst the proposals to come before the Racing Conference next month is one by the president, at the request of the Licensing Committee, dealing with trainers and ockeys. It the remit is carried, trainers’ licenses will be granted as follows: License “A” will only be granted to jweiikr.own public and private trainers ol good character;, license “B’ will be. ■oTiintcd to traineis who arc starting m their profession or who have no permanent training establishment; license “C” will be granted to trainers who are granted a license under special 'conditions as to good behaviour. Jockevs’ licenses will be. granted as follows License “A” will only be granted to jockeys over the age ol -t, who, whether in the regular employment of an owner or a licensed trainer, or not, can satisfy the Licensing Committee as to their fitness and character; license “B” will only be granted to jockevs who are not qualified ioi license “A,” and who are. m the regular employment of an owner or a licensed trainer ; license C will be granted to iockeys not qualified lor licenses “A”' or “B” under such conditions as may from time to time be imposed in each case by the Licensing Committee,
