MEETING OF MATCH COMMITTEE

The annual meeting of the Timaru Ploughing Match Coinniitt.cc was held yesterday afternoon in Pyne, Gould, Guinness’s rooms. Present. —Messrs J. Maze (president, in the chair), E. Cartwright (honorary secretary), R. J. Edgar, A. Copland, A. Gibson, \V. King, W. Divan, C. McPhedran, A. Gray, R. Doak, J. Nicol, W. Blackwood, and A. Copland, junr. Mr AY. Divan, who represented the committee at the Ploughing Match Association’s conference m Christchurch, on May 14, gave a detailed report on the business done at the conference. Delegates were present representing Timaru, Rakaia, Oxford, Rangiora, Courtenay, and Lincoln, and Mr J. G. Gilmour (Lincoln) presided. The matter of dates had been fully discussed, and it was decided to recommend Ashburton to hold their match on July 30, and Waimate, theirs on August 5. It was decided to recommend all Ploughing Match Committees to provide that no ploughing at matches should be less than s£in. in depth. It w;ts decided that competitors should continue to supply their own. yokes. The standard ago for the youths’ class was fixed at under eighteen years. It was agreed that the good effect of ploughing matches could be seen all over Canterbury, not only .so far as the ploughing was concerned, hut also in the way in which teams and gear were kept. Mr Divan was accorded a hearty vote, of thanks for his services at the conference.

Mr Maze, in vacating the chair, thanked members for the way in which they had supported him during ihc year, and paid a warm tribute to Mr E. Cartwright, for his splendid services as secretary io the committee.

A vote of thanks to Mr Cartwright was carried with hearty applause.

A general meeting ot Ihe committee was then held for the purpose, of making arrangements for this year's ploughing match. It was provisionally decided to hold the match on tho last Thursday in July.

Judges were appointed as follows: High-cut. - -Messrs D. Hardy (Drummond), and T. Hall (Duntroon). Plain ploughing.—Messrs W. AI. Skevington (Bankside), and J. Turnbull (Tinwald). Horse judges.—Messrs J. 1). Wylie (Soft on), and A. Copland junr. (St. Andrews). Jt was decided to endeavour to secure a paddock for the match Iron Mr D. Grant, at Washdyke.
