Established 1883. Ballantynes look back over forty years of successful trading in Timaru—years of pride and pleasure in their service of the South Canterbury Public, It was in November, 1883, that “J. Ballantyne and Co.,” —already successfully established in Christchurch, took over the Drapery Stocks of Messrs Wood and Smith, in Shepherd’s Building, and seeking expansion, removed to larger premises, known as ?ctoria House, which had been in the occupation of the Bank of New South Wales, and Messrs Gabites’ and Pratt. Here for many years Ballantynes had their Timaru House, irgny additions and alterations giving them the extra space demanded by the growth of their business, their Stafford Street frontage increasing from 66ft to 132 ft. Always leading, whether in Stocks or Premises, there came a time when the steady expansion of Ballantynes Business outgrew further alterations, and in 1913 Ballantynes erected the handsome premises they now occ;:: ;% Erected upon a corner site commanding extensive views, “Ballantynes” has a frontage of 220 ft., and is planned to afford every facility and cQmfort that modern trading can suggest. . . . , High-grade Stocks, splendidly reliable in quality, and most moderately priced, together with a courteous and willing service at the hands of an experienced staff, makes shopping at BALLANTYNES a pleasure. Ballantynes look back with gratitude,— and look forward with confidence. Faithful to their tradition of generous treatment of the Public, and ever seeking to give the best possible service that an up-to-date Drapery House can offer. STAFFORD STREET NORTH.
