COMMERCIAL.

By Telegraph-—Press Association, CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. The oat market has quietened down somewhat. There is still a. good deal of covering of forward, sales to be done, but operators are delaying as much as possible. Practically nothing is offering from growers. Up to 5s per bushel on trucks is being offered by merchants for B grade. Chaff has taken another firming in price, and up to £7 has been paid to farmers at nearby country stations. In view of the fact thgt Canterbury chaff this year is heavy, the quotation of £7 per ton is not out of the way in comparison with imported. * In potatoes, the singular feature about the market is that Dakotas are making more than whites. The former have been sold at £6 5s f.0.b.5.i., and whites at £5 17s 6d, quotations on trucks being to £4 17s Gd for Dakotas and £4 10s to £4 15s for whites. Growers will not discuss business under the latter price.
