NEXT SATURDAY’S GAMES. O.F.C.A. v. Geraldine A., at the Park. Cambridge v. Geraldine 8., at Gc.aidine. Ladies games to be arranged. L am exceedingly sorry, that I hai o oft'emlod someone by my reference Temuka sports having thrown in then lot with Geraldine. J made an errm through being wrongly informed, am so apologise, nevertheless I do i.ot quite agree with “Old Playei s methods of correction per medium u the correspondence column. On a pievious occasion I erred in the matter oi dates, and was corrected by anotlici “Old Player,” but with his correction he forwarded about half a column ol interesting hickey history. Saturday saw the second round of the men s competition opened. The defeat of Cambridge at the bands of C.F.C.A. came as a surprise to many, particularly the Blues themselves. In the last round, when these teams m.t, Cambridge had matters pretty well their own way although the Yellows team on Hint occasion was perhaps-not so strong as on Saturday. C. F. C. A. were strengthened by the inclusion of Rennet, who played Idee two men, and by putting Smaill bach in the goal, showed that no chances were to-be taken.- Cambridge underwent a bit of a change, which, perhaps upset them a little. Ramsay was out, and just after play commenced 'Worthington retired injured and did not return, his place being taken by Criiicitsliauk, who owing to a slight injury, bad not intended playing. Ihe gamo was hard and fast and T think it will be agreed that the best team won. It is said that in the heat ot a moment people say things they are sorry for afterwards. 1 trust the same will apply to this game. Geraldine A. did not have a great deal to spare in their match with tho B. team. The score d —3 shows a difference of two goals, not a bad showing for first year players. Next year this team will be a tough proposition, and if they continued at the rate they are going, will have to concede a handicap to some other young team, possibly Geraldine C.
Timaru just managed to defeat Celtic 8., 3—2. The latter, by the end of the second round, will be a much improved team. Like Geraldine 8., this team is composed practically ol first year players, and win or lose they carry on cheerfully for the purpose ot gaining experience. Timaru, although now in name, have a number of old players in their ranks—not perhaps okl playors, but more experienced, would be a better term —and should make a better showing than they do. It they were to do a little consistent practis
ing they would improve a hundred ;u i cent, ns they have tons of likely looking players in their team. I have heard rumoured that s holies' ioam is coming up from Dunedin for the tourney. I trust that, they will materialise.
