LURE OF DRUGS.
HOLDING BACK THE TRAFFIC. CANADIAN POLICE EFFORTS. By Cable—Preea Association—Copyright. (Received 9.5 p.m., June 6.) OTTAWA, June 5. A telegram from Montreal says in the task of striking at the drug traffic in Canada, the Mounted Police played the part of the traffickers themselves and went to Spain for the purpose of bringing back drugs. They had them smuggled through the Customs at Montreal, and after a year’s work, completed the case, the. upshot being the appearance of Miguel Moluqueer (Spanish Consul) and Raymond Torrento (another Spaniard) before Judge Cusson. Police Sergeant Brown testified that he was introduced to Torrento by Moluqueer, receiving letters of introduction to perons in Spain, and others who arranged tho bribery of the Custom employees. The Consul’s counsel entered a formal protest against the latter’s arrest on the ground of diplomatic immunity.
The hearing will he continued on the 11th. Brown, during the dealings with the Consul, claimed to ho an American drug importer on a large scale.
