PLAYER-WRITER CONTEST
(Received June 6, 7,35 p.m.) (Reuter’s Telegram.) NEW YORK, June 5 A despatch from Providence (Rhode Island) savs a compromise, wlieieby ' and other tennis player-writers retain their amateur standing, and which is expected will settle the controversv between the. Tennis Association and the player-writers, is set forth bv Tilden. Under its terms rilden will bo eligible to rejoin the United States Davis Cup team. It . provides thau player-writers shall retain the right to write tennis articles, provided that m the daily reports of the tournaments, in which the player-writer is competing, he should use neither his name, nor should Tilden.

A Telegram from Providinc© (Rhode Island) says: “The player-writers controversy, which has embroiled some of the country’s leading tennis players, has been won hv the racquet wielders,” asserted the champion (Mr Tiklenl, but he made no further statement beyond declaring that lie would accept an invitation to rejoin, the Davis Cup squad, from the United States, and would lie delighted to play if his services were still required.
