CASUALTIES.
THE WINGATUI FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 6. At the inquest on the jockey. William O’Connell, killed in the Wingatui Steeplechase, Alexander McMullan, rider of Aurore, stated that Isla Bank crashed into a hurdle, and without rising, turned a somersault. The horse had a clear run, and there was no interference. O’Connell was experienced and steady. A verdict of accidentally killed was returned.
BURNED WHILE WORKING TRACTOR.i

Severe burns were suffered by Mr Kippenberger, son of Mr K. Kippenberger. of Studholme Junction. Mr Kippenberger was working at a tractor, and by some means his clothing became saturated with fuel and ignited, all his clothing being burnt off. When assistance arrived his legs and arms were severely burned. Unfortunately the three local doctors were engaged in a serious operation, but the St. John Ambulance superintendent and a lady helper dressed the burns, and took the sufferer to the hospital.
