Mr Rutledge issues a statement signed by eleven Republican members who are free to attend the Bail, declaring that their opponents in their appeal for peace and stability, had been rigid in their insistence on the oath of allegiance, which was the most immediate barrier to unity. There could be no peace or progress while their opponents refuse to recognise the futility of ignoring the existence of an unconquerable Republic spirit. Considerable public interest was shown in the opening of the new .Dari at Dublin this afternoon. A l tho members wore present except the Republicans. The sitting lasted, two hours. Mr IV T. Cosgravc was re-olectcd Michael Hayes was elected Sl A'n U appeal was made that the Republican danulics, most o! whom are m gaol, should be given an opportunity of meeting, to docme whether' they ' would abandon then' militant methods. Attention was also drawn to the allegation of ill-treatment ol prisoners at Mountjot gaol. A-number of women, headed by Mrs Despard, Madame Gonue, and Mrs Mcßride, attempted to demonstrate outside carrying banners heaving Ice-ends such as: “Six hundred pimmiers hosed ami beaten m Mountjoy. '
The police moved the demonstrators on, Mrs Mcßride shouting: _ “My son is beinc; murdered at Mouutjoy. -
