EPIC OF THE SEA.
LOSS OF THE TREVESSA. HEROISM OF SURVIVORS PRAISED. By Cable—Press Association—-Copyright, (Received 10.30 p.xn., September 20.) LONDON, September 20. Tributes to the heroism of the Tre. vessa survivors were paid at Lloyd’s, when medals and cheques for £3OO and £2OO respectively were presented to Captain Foster and Chief Officer Smith.
The chairman (Sir James Sturge) in making the presentations said the deed was peculiarly British. It was not momentary heroism, but an effort sustained over a long period. Captain Foster and Mr Smith were visibly affected. In replying the former said: “The people ashore evidently thought more of the feat than ourselves.”
After tbe presentation the famous Lutine Bell was rung in honour of the crew.
