IMPORTANT CATTLE SALE

“ALL AND ALE” AYRSHIRE HERD

On‘ the Timaru A. and P. Association’s show grounds at Waimataitai yesterday, there was held the first sale of its kind, for this district, when Mr Andrew Grant’s fine herd of Ayrshire cattle was sold by public auction. Having drained the swamp lands on his “Allandale” estate, where cattle feed previously grew in abundance, Mr Grant decided to dispose of his cattle, and to run sheep in their stead; hence yesterday’s dispersal sale. In all 90 head were offered, and all were disposed of. The cattle came under review in good condition, and in the fine weather which prevailed, they looked well. Each one was haltered and tied up in the cattle sheds on the show grounds, and they were led, one at a time, into the judging ring for sale. Around this' ring seating accommodation was provided, but there was not nearly sufficient of this to provide for all who attended the sale, the large attendance including buyers from as far south as Stirling. Luncheon and afternoon tea were provided on the grounds by Mr F. M. Shewan. The selling auctioneers were Dalgety and Co., and the N.M. and A. Co., and starting shortly before noon they did not complete' their labours till about 5 p.m. Bidding was brisk, and good prices were realised, the top price of the day being 50 guineas, paid by Mr J. E. P. Cameron, of Glen-iti, for Model, a Very .fine looking thrce-year-old cow. Details of the sale are as follows—
