Why Studehaker CEASED MAKING 4-Cy!irtder Cars In years gone by Studebakers made both four-cylinder and six-cylinder cars, and built up a huge business for both types. The most successful and popular of the four-cylinder models was the “Light Four,” introduced two or three years ago, which had an enormous sale, as it deserved. Studebakor engineers then had the daring idea of building a six-cylinder car, which should sell at the same price as the .“Light hour.” To sell a six-cylinder car at the same price as a four-cylinder car of equal quality meant that there must, be a phenomenally large output, and facilities for producing such an output. Studebakers sank over £5.000,000 in a mugnicent plant, designed to build nothing but “Light Sixes.” AVhen the first ‘ Light Six came on'T.lie market two years ago it sold in New Zealand at £oio. Sales all the world over were so heavy that it was found possible to reduce the price every now and then, until to-day, when the vast Light Six plant is ivorking at full capacity, the Studehaker “Economy Light Six” sells in New Zealand at £4.20 (factory, finish, touring, and roadster models). This makes it the Jowest-priees six-cvlinder car on the market, cheaper even than the Studehaker “Light Four” used to bo. No experienced motorist needs to be told anvthing about Studehaker quality, or about the great advantages possessed by six cylinder over four-cylinder motors. Studebakers have dropoed the manufacture of four-cylinder cars because they have found out how to make and market a six-cylinder car wdnch can actually bo sold at a lower price. • . Adams LrteL N.Z.
