Something new in the way of afternoon teas 1g the "candle afternoon” that tne management of the Wentworth tea rooms has decided to hold next Wednesday. The tables will be decorated with candles softened by many-coloured shades, which in a darkened room will give a most entrancing and romantic effect to the surroundings. This innovation should prove very popular, especially as novelty is all the craze with the modern human being. ....

An attractive sacred concert and organ recital will be given in Chalmers Church on Tuesday, at 8 p.m. The programme will include solos by Mrs P. \V. Rule, including “Oh, had 1 Jubal's Lyre” (Handel), and Mr E. Budd; concerted items by the choir, among which may ,bo mentioned ‘‘Hark. Hark Mv Soul” (Shelley) and the celebrated Welsh choral number ''Kingdoms :uul Nations/* the solos being' taken bv Mrs Gibb, Miss W addel and Mr Oxford. Mr Axel Newton will plav bv special request the favourite “'Pilgrims' Chorus” (WagnerLeniare) and .Rachmaninoff s Dreiude in C sharp minor, as well as the overture in G (Adams), “Une Larine, and the “Kiev Processional—At the Merchants’ Gate” (Moussorgsky) Llie proceeds of the. concert are in aid of P.W.M.U. funds.
