THE LETTER BOX.
' PHYSICAL FITNESS To the Editor of the “ Timaru Herald.” Sir. — I crave your indulgence to allow me to resent “The Stigma” which the management of the South Canterbury ltugby Union has cast upon the physical fitness of our South Canterbury footballers, in not allowing them to continue the competition'games on Saturday, owing to having to play a seven-a-side tournament to-day. I notice that all competition games were played in Christchurch on Saturday, and further, harder and more strenuous Rugby is played there than here, and for all that, a seven-a-side tournament is being held in Christchurch today. Are the footballers of South Canterbury less physically developed" than those of the northern part of the province, in as much as they could not endure the same physical exertion? Why this coddling and nursing, or has the youth of the Timaru district deteriorated in stamina since the Great War? I say no.—l am, etc., O. K. P.S.—Teams from Ashburton engaged in the tournament to-day, played their competition games on Saturday, - —O. K.«.
