Somplo, leader of , Oromr.orcmgo tunnelling party, claimed that the completion of the work between Easter and Christmas would constitute an Australasian record lor such undertakings. He also pointed out that there was a clean accident sheet at Orongorongo, whereas at Mangahao last year eight men were killed. One was blinded and two were blown up since Christmas.
