meeting of timaru COMMITTEE, The annual meeting of the Timaru j Ploughing Match Committee was held in the land sale room of Messrß Pyne, Gould, Guinness yesterday. Mr W. Divan, president* was in the , chair. i The chairman referred in sympa- > thetic terms to the great loss the Ploughing Match Committee had j sustained in the death of the late Richard Irving. In Mr IrVing the ploughing match had a staunch . friend, and he moved that the services of Mr Irving should he recorded in the minutes and that the Committee tender its sympathy to the relatives of the deceased gentleman. This was carried, all present standing in respectful silence. The chairman referred to the sue- ? cess of the last ploughing match, and eulogised the services Of Mr E. Cartwright, the hon. secretary, who had a great deal to do with the present sound position of the Committee. Financially the year had been successful, and a satisfactory, credit balance was shown. Edgar, W. J. Bassett, W. King, A. Fraser, P. Porter, W. S. Jones, A. Copland, A. F. Stocker, E. Hide, Nicolj W. J. Barker; hon. secretary, Mr E. Cartwright; delegates to Ploughing Conference, Messrs Divan and Cartwright. . | In vacating the chair, having declined re-election, Mr Divan thanked the members of the committee for the loyal support they had accorded him, and wished his successor a prosperous year of office. In the absence of Mr Maze, Mr Gibson then presided. I Mr Divan referred to the difference in ages for the youth’s class at various matches. He moved that a remit should be sent to the Conference that the age for the youths’ class should be under 18.—This was unanimously agreed to. I

The date of this year’s match was discussed, and it was thought that the Timaru and Waimate meetings should be closer together to suit ploughmen. The question was left to the discretion of the delegates to the conference to have the Timaru matches as convenient as possible to northern fixtures. A Ground Committee consisting of Messrs A. Edgar and W. Divan, along with the president, vice-president, and secretary was appointed to arrange a paddock for the match. Messrs Reid and Gray vrote offering a £ls 15s silver cup for the ploughman gaining most points at South Island matches, using a Reid and Grey plough.—lt was decided to refer the matter to tho Ploughing Conference. Messrs Edgar, Hide, Divan, Gibson, and Cartwright were appointed a Programme Committee, to submit proposed events for consideration at next meeting.
