BALES OF HORSES. By Calilt—Press Association—-Copyright. Received 9.30 p.m., May 31st. SYDNEY", Thursday. At a sale of the late Mr J. O. Petersens horses, The Epicure realised lOOOgns and Delusion 7 50gns. C. Emerson will have fwo nice mounts at Dunedin on Saturday— Bonnie YVinkie and "will Oakland. It is expected that General Petain’s mission on the first day at Wingatui will he the St. Clair Steeplechase, his trainer inclining to ! the opinion that the big gelding is : hardly forward enough to run out the i three miles in the Otago Steeplechase. { P. T. Hogan’s team will require to ’ improve a good deal on recent form if they are to bring much of the i money on the first day at Wingatui |to Washdyke. Over fences at Ash- ; burton Cerberus presented Mandrake with over two stone and beat him handsomely; in the Junipers Flat there is only Sibs between them. Osterman is on the same mark as Y"ice-Royal in the Winter Welter, compared with 141bs separating them on the second day at Oamaru (after Osterman had been raised for a win on the opening day). Guncase, who looks the most likely of the string to pay his way, is comparatively well treated in receiving 51bs for a beating by Happy Warrior at Oamaru. Blazes was allowed to drop out of the Brighton Handicap, for the sufficient reason that at Oamaru Happy Warrior handed him 25lbs and a defeat, and would have met him on lalbs better terms at YVingatui. Rorke’s Drift finished behind Lady Blissful over fer> furlongs at Oamaru when receiving 71bs, and comes in on 51bs worse terms in the Birthday. Any success which come the way of the Racecourse stable will be well deserved.
