NEW ZEALAND DEFEATED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT . SYDNEY, May 30. The New Zealanders met a strong team at which excelled m concerted movements. An excellent forward rush by the local team took the play- to the New Zealand goal, Cameron transferring to Maunder who sent the bail between Craxton’s legs. After the interval, play was not so exciting, a number of opportunities on both sides being missed. On the call of time, Maunder ran - through and netted the ball. THE CANTERBURY MATCH. LOCAL TEAM DIFFICULTIES. It appears as though the South Canterbury representative team to do duty against Canterbury on Monday may have to undergo several changes from the selectors’ original choice. There was a strong muster at the Strathallan Hall last evening, but a variety of misl fortunes seems likely to make several | changes unavoidable. The defence will play as chosen, and it is undoubtedly the mainstay of the team. Bellonger, R. Taylor and Calvert, Wliite, Lewis and G. Davies, can be relied upon, in their present form, to give the Red and Black forwards a hard afternoon’s work. Forward, however, G. Nicol is a doubtful starter, while D. Menzies is also doubtful, and G. Keen from injuries which would have precluded him from club matches. The for mation of the vanguard will not be defi-

i nitely known till to-morrow, but the ! choice of substitutes will be between I Forsyth and Druning for the inside I berths and Richardson and J. Menzies I for the outside left position. Pressure ' of business and the Saturday till Tues- ’ day break are likely to militate against i the brothers Menzies both getting to ! the City of the Plains, and a similar 1 difficulty is likely to prevent Nicol turn- | ing out. ’ ■ The Canterbury Association will billet ; most of the players, ahd a very promisi ing entertainment programme has been 1 arranged for the visitors. The team j will leave Timaru by the 4.20 express !on Saturday afternoon, returning on ; Tueadsy at 11.45 a.in. On Saturday evening a dance will be held in honour of the South Canterbury team at the R.S.A. Club, for Sunday a motor tour has been arranged, and on Monday j evening the visitors' will be the guests | of tho ’ Canterbury, Association at an j entertainment. The week-end promises to be a very pleasant one for the visitors. It is hoped to definitely announce the rep. eleven in to-morrow’s issue. B GRADE. 0 The first match of the B Grade competition for the Young Cup will take place on Anzac Square on Saturday afternoon at 2.45 prompt, when Rangers and Rovers will be the contestants. Both teams have been assidu- j ■ ously at practice this week, and a good j ! game, with a close finish, is likely to : Ibe the outcome. The game will be under the control of Mr R. S. Nicol. j Rangers’ team will be selected from I the following:—C. Sheiles, IV. McFar- ! lane, F. J. Bowles, E. Latter, Me- j Namara, W. Chiles. R. Green, R. Earle, . V. Jackson, R. Holland, J. and L. Gillespie, P. Parsons and D. Davies. SENIOR GAMES POSTPONED. On account of the rep.game in Christchurch on Monday all senior games have : been postponed for a week. j !
