runholders AIEET AT TEKAPO. ' A meeting of Alackenzie runholders ‘ and station managers was held, at Tekapo to discuss various matters affecting the interests of the hill country. It was probably the first meeting of its kind held in the Alackenzie Country since the inaugural meeting of the Mount Cook Bond Board held at Sawdon Homestead in 18!M, when the fate . Air E. Xeschemaker presided. Some twenty runholders and mana-1 gers were present at fast week’s meet- I ing at T’ekapo, representing all parts of the Alackenzie Country, and probably j as many more would have been present i but lor the urgency of getting the Ligh- j country flacks into their winter quar- j ters. Among those present were Air' Alackenzie (chief stock inspector, for 1 Canterbury) and Air Sinclair (stock inspector at Eairlie). Mr E. If.. Guinness (onwer of Gleutanner Station) presided. A wide range of subjects was discussed, including the rabbit pest, annual stock sales, the purchase of rabbit * netting, road maintenance, travelling surfacemen for Tekapo riding, the clearing of the main road in time of snow, the kea nuisance, destruction of lambs by seagulls, telephone matters, and a producers’ shipping line. After a very full discussion on the rabbit question and a detailed explanation’of the working of a Babbit Board it was unanimously decided not to set up a Babbit Board, but to adhere to tho present system of control under the direction of Government inspectors it was also decided that the Canterbury Sheep-owners’ Union should be asked.to invite tenders for the supply of 100 miles of rabbit netting. Jt was agreed that there should be a wether sale for the whole of the Mackenzie Country at Tekapo on or about January 20, and a ewe and lamb fair a Ihoborough Downs and Tekapo about Alarch 3.
