MONTHLY MEETING.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Young Men’s Christian Association was held in the rooms on Tuesday evening. Mr G. T. Dawson (president) occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs C. G. Vogeler, W. E. Tubb, W. Simpson, S. Andrews, R. J. MclCeown, A. G. Hamilton, and E. G. Cliffen (general secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. Norton and C, E. Kerr. The general secretary reported, inter alia, that the attendance of members in the rooms averaged 116 weekly. The gymnasium classes numbered as follows: —Ladies 20, seniors 26, business men 17, boys under twelve 21, junior department 18. The Miniature Rifle Club and the Football Club had both commenced their seasons successfully.

The committee rooms had been used for 41 meetings other than Y.M.C.A. meetings, and the hall has been used three times during the month. The attendance of officers and cadets from overseas liners had been 35. Correspondence was received from Mr Varney giving details of the visit o/ Dr Datta to New Zealand in July. Mr E. G. Cliffen was appointed a delegate to the Y.M.C.A. Convention to be held in Palmerston North in J une. , It was decided to procure staging and additional seating accommodation for the hall, and also to make arrangements for heating the office and board room. It was decided to hold a “Strangers’ Tea” on Sunday afternoon, June 3, for members and others interested. An address will be given, and the proceedings will close at 6 p.m. The following were appointed an executive to deal with various mattrs—Messrs' G. T. Dawson, C. E. Kerr, C. G. Vogeler, A. G. Hamilton, and R. J. McKeown. Matters in connection with Geral- ’ and the cinema'were disoussed, and the meeting was adjourned until Tuesday, May 29, when these and other important subjects will be dealt with.
