COMMEMORATE MARCH 3. THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS? MEMORIES Pennons fluttering and harness gleammg, with lances tossing like a forest or steel, the Lancers rode through Sydney thirty-eight years ago. Tablecloths fluttering, and silver gleaming, wrfcli forks- tossing like a forest- of ttrideuts, tlio Lancers went through seven courses. . . last night. In commemoration of that first March 3, Ibßo, when the- New South Wales Lancer Regiment held its first uniform parade, most of the survivors held a gastronomic parade at the Navy and Army Cafe last night. The. veterans present ' included General' Eiaschi, Lt.-Col. Mills, D. 5.0., Lt.-Col. Vernon, D. 5.0., Lt.-Col. Eiasciii, Lt.Col. .Stowe, Y r .D., and Majors Wife nor and Brunton.
“This may seem only a regimental mess, ! ’ said Lt.-Col Vernon, “but in this room are men who have galloped together , through the springing grass of Salisbury Plain —men who have watched the snow fall on Table Top together—men who have seen the const of India fade away —men who have heard bullets crack at Bloemfontein — men who have lived among the races whose ancestors buried Tuit Arikh Amen —men who have hammered away at Lille—men who have withstood the fleas and flies of Turkey—and men who have braved the blizzards of Canberra.”
Other speakers included General, and Lt.-Col. Eiaschi, Major Brunton and Major Stowe. They emphasised the need for an annual commemoration of the formation of the N.S.W. Lancers, and discussed means of fostering comradeship between all who had served in that regiment.
During the evening two war medals woro presented to Lieut. R. A. Lev, and long-service medals to SergeantMajors Wood, Ferguson and Whitney.
