It commenced with Smith 130 ahead on the aggregate, and has' be.en a ding-dong struggle throughout, with some magnificent breaks. In one session Smith averaged 195 and Newman 192. To-day the players led alternately, and closed, with Smith in play, 14,667, and Newman 14,091. The best breaks .were: Newman 480, 462, 404; Smith 533, 485 and 442. —A. and N.Z.
