MR ROLLESTON DECLINES
Concerning the statement that there was a movement afoot to ask Mr F. J. Rolleston to again stand for the position of Mayor of Timaru, Mr Rolleston wi'ites: — “My intention to retire was announced two months ago, und while appreciating very much the compliment of being asked to take the position again, I regret that I cannot accede to the request. The duties of Mayor of this Borough at present are very exacting and take up a eonuiderable amount of time. Ido not think it would he fair either vo the ratepayers or myself to attempt to combine these duties with those of a member of Parliament, which appear to me to he equally exacting, and moreover involve absence from the Borough for several months during the session.”
