THE BROKEN MELODY

BAND CONTEST ECHO. .STARTING A FRESTI “SCORE.” I’ItESS ASSOCIATION. AVELLINGTON, Wednesday. A sequel to the impounding of the Waterside Workers’ Band’s instruments by tho bailiff during the progress of the recent contest at Dunedin is tho secession of the bandsmen from tho Waterside Union. A new band will be formed, and the Harbour Board will bo askod to allow it to call itself the “Wellington Harbour Board Brass Band,” following the precedent of tho Geelong Harbour Trust Band.

The incident at Dunedin was not the result-, it is claimed, of anything that tho band had done, and through it they have lost instruments, music and uniforms; but as the band had met with some succesvs tho members want to keep it alive, and will new start a campaign to raise £IOOO for equipment. Mr Drew has been chosen conductor again.
