NOTABLE QUEUE.

BIG BOOKING FOR “A LA OARTE.”

In the early hours of yesterday morning, casual passer-bys wero astonished to notioe quite a crowd of people formed in queue formation, extending from the Bristol right down towards Begg and Co. Those who asked the reason were told that the great spectaculax revue and comedietta “A La Carte’ ’ was being put on in the Theatre Royal on Monday and Tuesday next, and that the boolring office opened at the Bristol tiiat morning at 9 o’clock. There must have been representatives for 500 seats when the doors opened, and the assistants were kept busy booking seats until 11 o’clock, by which time 1000 seats bad been disposed of. Judging by this splendid start, there is evidently strong backing for the Caroline Bay improvement fund, for which the revue is being arranged. It also betokens that the public foresee that “A La Carte” will bo something really worth while—something that will give tW full money’s worth, in an entertainment sparkling, piquant and full of mirth and jollity. The turns will comprise quaint and spectacular musical and artistic items —songjs, ballets, visual dances, burlesque and comedy sketches. A charming bevy of young ladies, chosen for artistry, artistic ensemble, and musicianly abilities, will make up the chorus.

For the principals, South Canterbury’s leading artists of the dramatic and concert platform, have been drawn on, reinforced, strengthened and 00-or-dinated by Cliristchurch artists under the superintendence of Messrs W. S. and F. R- Wauchop. These last named gentlemen will take a prominent part in the burlesques and comedies, and their skill and talent as mirth producers are now widely recognised. The dresses will be the last word in the art of stage dressmaking, with strango character impersonations, and the colour schemes will run on the lines of Indian, Venetian and Spanish o-limpses, each being correct as to country and period. The Theatre Royal for both nights will hold 2500, so that there are still a number of seats available for enthusiastic patrons.
