EALING'S TRIBUTE TO ITS SOLDIERS. In keeping with its reputation Tor patriotisui tno district oi itaiiug lias placed on permanent record its appreciation and remembrance of all tno men or tho district who took part in the war. This took the form of a Roll ol Honour,',which was unveiled at a very ..fitting and impressive ceremony. i -• The gathering was in Ealing Hall, and was a very large one, and fully representative of a community eager to pay honour to its representatives who went' on active service. In addition, a 3arge number came from a distance to share in this ceremony of remembrance. Included among the visitors were Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., whose electorate (Temuka) includes Ealing; Major E. H. Orr, D. 5.0., president of the Ashburton. Returned Soldiers’ Asoeiation; Mr C. Reid, chairman of the Ashburton -County Council, suported by Messrs W. T. Lill, W. G. Gallagher, and H. C. B. Withell, representing tho Longbeach and Rangitata ridings of the county; and the Revs. G. H. Harold and R. J. Liddell and Mr Webber, who jointly conducted the religions services in connexionTvith the ceremony. Captain A. • Wallace presided over the assembly aa chairman of the local Patriotic Committee. The unveiling ceremony included a sliorb sendee and secular addresses.

The proceedings were opened by the singing or tue National Anthem and the nyrnu, “U Cod, Our Help.” Later, Kipling’s ■■ “Recessional” was sung, aiiu Piper Scott'' played Dip Highland lament, “The Flowers of 'the Forest. ’ Prayer’s were ottered by Messrs Liddell and Webber, and Mr Harold read Psalm 46: “God is our Refuge.” An impressive ceremonial was fittingly, closed by the sounding of “The Last Post” by Bugler R. McKenzie. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P. in a stirring, eloquent address performed the unveiling ceremony, and was followed by Major Orr, Mr Reid, and Mr Gallagher all of whom paid fitting tribute to the memory of the dead and to the patriotism of those who had been spared to return. At the close of the ceremony those present were entertained at tea. by the Ealing ladies, whose hospitality was suitably recognised by Air, Burnett. Counter cheers were given for the speakers and visitors.
