Plough Tractor Trial.

AT WASHDYKE. Unusual interest centred at the Timaru ploughing match at Wash dyke yesterday, in an exhibition which was given by the Case 10-f8 plough tractor. The little machine was going ad day, and it was the cynosure of all eyes. "Working in too same pauuock as too horse da-awn ploughs, there seemed tobe nothing it could not do from drawing, with ease, a three-furrow plough through old pasture land that had not previously been ploughed for 12 years, to different sized hustlers, and a threefurrow ridger. It worked in both hard and sett ground, and always with such celerity and smoothness as to he the envy of those who are used to working horses. The Case 10-18 is made by the J. I. Case Threshing Machine Company, U.S.A., and the American agent ,(Mr Hume) and the local agent (Mr H. M. Stonyer) were present yesterday to introduce it. It soon established itself as a favourite, however, on its own merits. The simplicity of its working and the efficient way in which it did its work (at about half the cost of horse traction, it was said) quickly accomplished all that was necessary ta establish it in popular favour. | The Case 10-18 is an ideal size, for' email farms. It will pull two 14-inch poughs in hard, tough soil, or three--12-inch bottoms under favourable conI ditions. It pulls disc harrows,. grain drills, binders, or the largest manurespreader, and can be put to any use for which power is wanted on a farm. Being light in weight it does not pack the soil, and makes it well suited for seeding and discing. It is ideal for j road work, and for general hauling it ; handles easily from five to ten tons, according to road and grade conditions. The Case 10-18 is really an all-the-year round tractor, ready to perform at any time the multifarious tasks for which it is so well adapted. Compactly built, low set, and requiring little room to turn it can be used for cultivation in the orchard, as well as in the field, and it is claimed for it that it will ■ work quite as well on the downs as on the flat. It is of the 11-cylinder valre-in-head type, designed especially to economically burn kerosene; and continued field tests are said to have proved it most efficient. The cooling system is of the forced circulation type: > the water being circulated by menus of j a centrifugal pump, and the engine ; runs all day without any sign of over- j heating. ATI its parts are strong, and J the tractor bears those qualities which are calculated to recommend it to discerning farmers. . . j In addition to the exhibition of the j tractor a.t yesterday’s ploughing match j there were other exhibitions of Mr H. j S. McCully’s patent drag hnrrow (which j was- highly thought of) and of Mr j Tovey’s nine-horse yoke. 1
