CANTERBURY BEAT TARANAKI. Per Press Association. HAWERA, Aug.' 3. The Canterbury—Taranaki match was played on a soft ground and in a heavy wind, before a large attendance, and resulted in a comfortable win for Canterbury by 14 to 5. Canterbury played with good combination against the wind, and scored first, an unconverted try by Wilson. Taranaki attacked, and from a lineout Master scored, Hooper converting. Early in the second half, Blazey scored Canterbury’s second try, W. Henry converting. Helped by the wind, play most of the time was in Canterbury’s favour. Taranaki got a few good rushes, but failed to control the ball. Canterbury’s next try came from a fine passing rush, Dailey, who had just replaced Blazey (injured) scoring, hut the try was not converted. A free kick against Taranaki enabled Henry to land a fine goal just on time.

The football match Auctioneers v. Fat Stock Buyers, to have been played on 27th August, has been postponed, owing to the Otago team’s visit on that date. The names of the opposing teams will appear later, and all players are requested to continue training. It having been agreed that replacements will be allowed, a large number of emergencies will be selected.

A match between Orari and C[andeboye dairy factories will be played at Temuka this afternoon.
