MORE TENNIS COURTS.

Sir, —It has occurred to me to draw the attention of the bodies concerned to the fact that the present time would be opportune to lay down two or more extra tennis courts at the Bay. The present four have been a good investment for the ratepayers, but from four to six months of the year they are quite inadequate for the number of players desiring a game, and the lack of extra courts will be more acute this year owing to the universal Saturday half-holiday. Many visitors come to Timaru attracted by the Bay and its appointments, not least of which is the knowledge that with our fine climate they can be assured of plenty of tennis. This is a matter that the Bay Improvement Association might well concentrate on.

It would at the same time help to give a small measure of relief to the unemployment problem. The newlyformed South Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association could also find scope for their energy in furthering the matter. Ample room could be found for four more courts, and they would well repay the interest on the capital outlay.—l am, etc.,

Timaru, 3rd August.
