Tue Lieut.Goveruor's speech laid emphasis on the-Government proposed legislation in the direction ox tno endowment of children. He made biting reference to the delegation which recently visited London, stating that it appeared to the Ministry that financiers abroad, at the behest of tliree unofficial delegates, informed the Government that Joan money would be supplied if the Government agreed to repeal coitain legislation which had been endorsed by the electors at two elections. The Ministry scorned the bribe and refused tho infamous proposal, believing that the electors would agree with' thorn. "With the object of testing the question the Ministry decided'to postpone all legislation with the exception cf an amending Liquor Bill, and then adjourn Parliament until the Premier's return, and then would appeal to the people for endorsement of their attitude.
Mr Lennon was elected President of the Legislative Council.
