FOOTBALL.

TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME. Interest in the premiership competition will reach its highest pitch today, when Temuka and Old Boys are to meet at Victoria Park, and Celtic and Star at the Athletic Grounds/ in what may be the deciding contests. At present Temuka and Celtic are leading for the championship with 12 points each, but Star, with 10 points arid one game more to play, are practically level with them, and this afternoon's matches may decide the issue. Among the possibilities of the day's play are a tie between two or even three teams, a win for either Celtic, 'i'cmuka, or Star, aud with the four teams engaged in the contests apparently so nearly equal in strength any one oi' the above results may ensue. The grounds promise to be in fair order, and with so much at stake the keenest play of the season can be looked for." The preliminary game on Nu. 1 ground will be Zingari v\ High School. If it were possible for School to play out their competition games, by defeating Zingari aud Hhviroa they could secure a play-off with Zingari for the junior Hag. Their foreign engagements will most likely prevent this, but to-day's game is certain to be a very fast one for this grade. The'grand, stand, will be reserved for ladies and their escorts.

ALL BLACKS 38, "WELLINGTON 3 (Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. To the tunc of 33 points to 3, the Wellington Rugby representatives were soundly trounced by the All Black team this afternoon. The match was witnessed by between 91)00 and 10,000 people. Beautiful weather prevailed, but the ground was in a very bad state. I'rom the spectators' point of view the match was most disappointing and one-sided. The Wellington team was outclassed altogether as a combination, and did not cross the Blacks' line once, their only score coming from a penalty kick by M. Alitcii.-il very early in the first .spell. On neither side was the tackling brilliant, but in handling the hall the Blacks were manifestly superior to Wellington, and occasional bursts of passing which they were able to put in were well worth witnessing. The All Blacks' fine pack of forwards held the balance in their favour, and on less than half a dozen occasions wero Wellington able to penetrate New Zealand's territory. For the Blacks tries were scored by Storey (3), Jacobs (2), Brown, Bellis", J>onaid, Badeley, O'Brien, and Shearer. The latter's try was converted by Jacobs. Bellis kicked a penaltygoal. The House of Representatives adjourned for the afternoon to enable members to witness the match. Mr Holland was alone in protesting against the adjournment.
