A most remarkable theft was perpetrated about the end. of last mouth bv a boy, 13 years of age. as a lesuit of which the efforts of the Rand Bailarat Contest Committee's entertainment Polity have been somewhat hampered, '.the party is touring the countrv towns with a revue entitled "The Rose of the Cabaret," ancl the scenerv and furniture incidental to the production, were stored in a, lumber sited at the hand room, in Mill Street. .From this shed, however, two tables and, several pieces of scenery disappeared, the loss bcin«" estimated at £2l 10s. °
Yesterday Constable Munro interviewed a boy in connection with another small matter, and the lad admitted having removed the tables and scenery. He said he "planted 1 ' them in a hole in the'.-shingle beach opposite Mill Strefet. The constable made a, diligent search of the beach hut without result. The hole spoken of by the boy was sonle distance below hjsh water mark, and it is thought the {articles removed may have been carried out to sea.
