CO-OPERATIVE FREEZING COMPANY.
PUOGKESS OF Tl-iK MOVEMENT.
Mr V. TI. Labati, organising secretary or the new Farmers' Co-operative r'reezing company, icports ttut. very satisfactory progress is being made in. the disposal of shares in the districts visited. The share list, is increasing daily, and no i'o-.er than SO new mime.s wore added to the register last w»ek, all of the new shareholder.-, being Jarmers who' do a considerable amount of Kittening. Fanners are realising that freezing space should be owned oy the producers themselves, and ,-hould in j act form p.nt of their holdings. Any piuposal which does not jnovido- for complete ownership and control, of the freezing space, and for the distribution of prolits on a co-operative basis, finds iio favour to-day amongst the progressive farmers of this district. Another matter which is being dis-. cussed amongst farmers is the question of securing better prices for produce. Jn view of the present scale of taxation and increased" cost of working farms, including high cost of implements, manures, etc., farmers are contending that returns more commensurate with, the present outlay should be secured, j'.nd they arc realising that it is only by combination and working on cooperative principles that an improvement in the present conditions can be brought about. The opinion is being expressed at country sales that the new company have already been inslrnmen. Inl in securing better prices Lo farmers fur stock.
