LONDON, July 11. Sir Thomas Mackenzie presided at the Australian and New Zealand luncheon to. Sir James Allen at the"'Con naught Roonis. Lords Bryce,. Blyth and'lslington, Colonel Amery, Sir Joseph Ward, bir James Mills, the Agents-General, and many prominent New Zealanders ancl_ Australians were present. Sir Thomas Mackenzie said he was sure Sir James Allen would receive the same hospitality and courtesy"'that he himself had received, and he wished him, well.
Colonel Am e ry, proposing Sir James Allen's health',, regretted Sir Thomas Mackenzie's departure. He .would carry with him the, good wishes of those ■with whom he had r come in contact. In wejeoming James, Colonel Amery paid .a tribute to the work he had done in New Zealand as Minister of Defence and Acting Premier. New Z< aland's record in th e war-was, beyond all, a credit to Sir James, who had made heavy ■sacrifices during the war. He now 'came to England at a critical period of the relations within tl e Empire. There were many problems to solve, and the men who- count in the Empire . should be iu personal ...touch •with each other if these problems were to be _ satisfactorily snlvedaiid a sinrfe Imperial policy evolved. It was a w ; ise thing for. New Zealand to- send, a man who was in.such close touch with NewZealand's .views and aspirations; therefore he cordially welcomed Sir .'lames.
