A very pleasant ■evening was spent in tie Maungati school on Friday, evening lastj wlieoi the people of district met to welcome home -Private EDobsou, who is the lasfc man from the district to return home. The school was crowded to overflowing. After suppea- a halt was called, and Mi- Fenn, in a very line speech, took the audience back to the earlier days of t-'oe war when things looked gloomy, and led oit up to the brighter days till the armistice was declared, and they were welcoming home their gallant men. He concluded by presenting Private Dobson with a gold medal, suitably inscribed, from .his Maungati friends. Private Do'oson, in a few well chosen words, thanked all who had turned out to 'welcome him home, and those who had given _ him the beautiful medal . After singing "For he's a jolly good fellow," and giving threp rousing good, cheers for Private Dob son. Dancing was resumed and kept up until the small hours of tine morning. The music was supplied by Mr C. Costello, and Mr H. Bird ably, acted as M.C. . • On Thursday night in the Salvation Army Fortress, the Temuka Army Bamd and Sbngsters provided a very 'enjoyable entertainment to a large and appreciartive audience. After a oordiai welcome had been extended to the visitors by Adjutant Hanford, the officer in charge of the ; Temuka Corps, Adjutant Lamond, presided over the gathering. The three items rendered by the Band were very creditably performed, and the. bright expressive singing of .'the song- | sters was a feature of the evening. The Rive family / displayed great musicaJ ability m their unique selection with, the bellif,, also in their company song, both, items being heartily, encored. The string: selection given by Bandmaster arid Mrs Rive and Ensign Hildreth was also, loudly -applauded. Two splendid recitations given by Miss Itene Kay, and Baaidmaster P.ive made a pleasing variety in the programme. • Three fine Eolos were sung by Mrs Ensign: Hil- • dreth (band accompaniment),*- Mr L. Forbes and Adjutant Lamond. .Mrsi .Rive acted as organist. At the conclusion of the programme, Adjutant Hanford, Mr J.
