Cable Assn- . - TOEIO, May 14.A number of small shipping lines established during the war period, and which reaped enormous profits, are now amalgamating as the International Steamship Company, aggregating 300,000 tons, and are asking for a Government subsidy. Japan has long stu.died the British mercantile system, and considers the present a favourable opportunity for becoming a formidable competitor. The new combine intends to invade the trade spheres formerly largely British, including New York, youth America, India and South Africa, Constantinople, Marseilles, Hamburg and Riga. _
