AMUSEMENTS.

FULLERS'.. PICTURES. JUNE ELVIDGE. Appearances are often deceptive and they are especially so in the World drama, "The Appearance of Evil," which is to be screened by Fullers at the Theatre Royal this evening. June - Elvidge never appeared under happier circumstances than in this feature, and puts up something of a record in the number of superb dresses which she wears. Handsome Frank Mayo will he seen again opposite the popular screen star. The story tells of a young widow •"' who with her young son lived in a rather secluded country house. There she used to be visited by an attractive young man, and suspicion was soon j aroused, scandal became rife, and this i was added to by the -whispers of the I servants of the house, who were surely' in the best position to form then- own/ conclusions.. The plot becomes not only • bewilderingly mysterious "but very thrilling and the story moves at a pace which keeps the interest at full tension from first to last. It is undoubMly one of the most effective plays June; Elvidge has ever appeared in and gives fine opportunity for the splendid acting which every fresh picture shows her capable of. -The' working-out- of the plot, is entirely satisfactory and ends : happily. The supporting will include 'The Topical Gazette," a Triangle laugh "His Nine. Lives," : and an official war subject, "The Toll lof the Sea." This is a picture "of special interest. .Mr F. Lubbe has arranged an excellent musical pro- | gramme for the Royal Orchestra, which will embrace .."A Gondola Love Song," "The- Great Little- Army," ' "Just Awearin' for You," "Frou Frou: Fox Trot," HRajrjring the Scale," "Kiss of Down," "Melody in F" (Rubenstein), "Alia Stella Confidettte," the French spngs "Queen of the Fleet," "Frivo-: lette," "Bandinage," "When Sailing -Home," "Polish Dances," and "Berceuse." Seats may .he reserved as usual. - TWO NEW ST4.Rf aI?THE : GRAND: The fnmous Metro Coy. are to be congratulated on having secured the : services of-the two celebrated American screen stars, Anna j[j. Nilssom, and Franklyn Farniim. The reputation of these two. artists in dramatic productions is very high, and should therefore make .many, friends throughout th 0 Dominion. The title of their first Metro picture is "In Judgment Of." The'story is from the pen of George I). Baker, and the able direction is the work of Will S. Davis. It will commence 'at the Grand Theatre to-night. It is a tense drama, strong in its appeal to the emotions, and carries an unusual theme. Miss Nilsson ■' splays the role of Mary Manners, daughter of a political dictator, whose strange gift of telepathy is the means of saving her sweetheart, wrongly accused. of murder, from paying the tsenalty of another's crime. The ever popular Franklyn Farnum is cast for a part particularly suited to his dominant personality, and is seen as the young lawyer whose parentage has been shrouded in mystery, and is accused of a crime he did not commit. How Mary, by her faith in him, and •ay her psychic powers, at last frees his character from the stigma of crime, and establishes his parentage, is dramatically depicted in this gripping play. The supporting cast is of unusual strength, and includes such high lights of the stage and screen as Herbert Standing, seien in the pnrt of the judge, Harry Northrup, Lydia Knott, Edward Alexander, and Kntherine Griffiths. In on P particular scene 200 actors appear. This is in the tremen- • clous court room scene where the psvchic -powers of Mary Manners (played' by Miss Nilsson), are the means of denouncing the real culprit and clearing the rame of her lover. Fine sup-! porting pictures include a clever; Christie Comedy, entitled "All Dressed Up," a lengthy "American Gazette," and a splendid educational subject entitled "Wild Babies." The programme is one that should not b e missed. Reserves as usual, no extra charge. Another fine musical programme has been tastefully arranged by Violet Capstick. SKATING. One session only will take place at Olympia to-day. The anxiously looked for carnival dates will be announced this week.
