The Dutch steamer Gaseondi.er laden with grain and flour for Belgian relief was subjected to a submarine atrocity in territorial waters near Hugosond. A submarine shelled her without warning, and later bombarded tho lifeboats, a:ul ;•. number of the occupants were fearfully crippled. Tho mate and live, seamen died, in the water. Twenty wounded survivors l»ro boon taken to hospital. The Gascondior sank in twenty minutes. Tho submarine then disappeared.
