SEED GROWING.

DISQTJSSED BY BOARD OF 1 \ AGRICULTURE. Tdie question of growing seeds in the Dominion was discussed at great length by tho Board of Agriculture last week. Mr Brown, Director of the Fields Division, and Mr Cockayne, Biologist of the Department of Agriculture, joined! in the discussion! as to what might be done in this direction. Mr Cockayne pointed out tibia* the practicability of obtaining seeds depended largely on the duration of tha war, and the unsettled' period that might follow; but it was evident that the difficulty of securing adequate supplies at the present time was very acute, nmd it was quite likely that prices for such se?ds would remain high for soma time after hostilities had ceased. Various members of tha Boaid of Agriculture deta'led their experiences in "the growing of seeds, and 'expressed) the opinion that in spite of the competition of Europe this branch, of farming may be made a very remunerative! one. | It wan decided to request the Depart, ment of Agriculture to publ'sh <=oni9 more information in the "Journal of Agriculture" o_s te. the best mdihf>i3 of crpw;ii,cr and coiilectin.Q: the particular kind of seeds fsr tlicro wa3 a_ demand .in the Dominioa- .It wai ftiso agreed that the .Government should be recommended, for ihejjurp.ose of encouraeinjs tha xuowjth of. ccd clover seisdj. to impprfc a number o£._fc!ia yerj bes* class of. .humble Jbee, jiarticg-' larlx.tli<i red<-tailed be© and ono knowa as the bronze hoe.
