Couatablc D. J. Callanan has been appointed clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Geraldino.
The Rev. W. L'. Salter is expected to arrive in Timaru on Friday. He wiil continue, his ministry at tho Baptist Church nest Sunday. Nurse A. R. Aiken, Timaru Hospital, is_among the candidates who gained 75 per cent, of marks or more at the recent State examination for registration of nurses.
Private T. F. Olliver, who was home on sick leave from camp, has undergone an operation in Nurse Mallet's private hospital, Temuka, and is progressing favourably.
It wouid appear that familiarity does not always breed contempt. Though Mr J. Craigie, M.P., has been lecturing for some years past on the national poet of Scotland his services are in as great demand as ever. 'n response to requests he has consented to speak before the Hawlce's Bay Highland Society at Napier on Januarv J5 (the Burns anniversary) and for the Scottish Society at Mataura on January 31.
The death is announced, at "Wellington, of Mr T. Elliott Wilson, a weUkuown newspaper proprietor of the iNorth. Island. The late Mr Wilson spent Jus early days in Oamaru, and gamed his newspaper ©xperienoe in the North Otago Times" Office. Mr Wil?oajVa" r 'Wned_ a number of newspapers in tho Dominion amongst them tiein" the "Bruce Herald" and the "Waimate H. ls litest venture was t'he Taihape Daily Times." His numerous newspaper ventures were lucrative, and ho was able to retire from active participation in business. Mr Wilson is said to have owned between 30 and 40 properties in Taihape.
